In the 16^th century Sultan Suleiman restored the already devastated town’s walls, dating back to ancient times, and gave the city the name Mimaris, which after a while was turned into Marmaris. To our time survived a part of the old town on the slopes of the fortress Marmaris. Dilapidated houses on the narrow streets attract many travelers and are under the state protection. A walk through the old town will give you the opportunity to enjoy the unique architecture of the province of Mula. Many buildings are inhabited by the indigenous people of Marmaris.
